R Coffee Corner expanding offerings, adding entertainment
Boredom breeds success at award-winning R Coffee Corner

R Coffee Corner has been up and running since last August and bringing new fads to the area daily. The coffee shop is the only place around offering treats like bubble tea and nitrogen-infused cold brew coffee as well as homemade baked goods, soups, sandwiches and more.
Why?
Because Sherry Roberts was bored.
Seriously.
“I really thought the area could use a coffee shop,” said Roberts, who started the business with partner Alice Randolph. “I was bored and the Harbor Lights shopping center is really up and coming. We think we’ve brought a bunch of new and exciting things to the area.”
And so, R Coffee Corner was born.
The bistro-style café is located at 3848 Harbor Light Landing Drive and includes inside and waterfront patio dining areas as well as a community room that seats 24 for showers, board meetings and other community events – offered up at no cost.
“We are always looking to do things that are advantageous for the area,” said Roberts.
This isn’t the pair’s first business venture – they also own a medical practice and real estate company – and their business experience along with daily research into their new venture seem to be paying off. R Coffee Corner was recently awarded the Port Clinton Area Chamber of Commerce’s 2017 Outstanding New Business Award.
They aren’t resting with their early successes though – they are already expanding offerings since gaining a liquor license in May. Now the espresso drinks, frappes, smoothies and more can get a grown-up kick.
“I think people have to come in and try our Caribbean Colada smoothie – and the adults can add a shot of rum – and sit and watch the water,” said Roberts.
Starting June 4, the restaurant will have Martini Mondays and are planning open mic nights on Tuesdays.
Though opening a new restaurant is a lot of work, Roberts has really enjoyed making it all happen.
“We’re having a really good time with it. If you ask me, I’d be looking to franchise. If you ask Alice, she’s looking to kill me,” she said with a laugh.
