PC Chamber of Commerce focused on outreach
By Nikki Adams
President
The PC Chamber has grown to 415 members and strongly promotes business and tourism for the Greater Port Clinton area, answering hundreds of phone calls and emails monthly. Many visitor packets are sent out weekly stuffed with member information as well as relocation packets going out to those who are considering a move to our area or starting a business in the community.
Our new and improved website is now mobile friendly so before heading out for shopping and dining or making your hotel reservations, don’t forget to go to the Chamber’s website. It is your online resource for coupons, events and specials presented by Port Clinton Chamber members. It’s easy: just go to portclintonchamber.com. Also, don’t forget to ask Alexa what is happening around Port Clinton – our PC Chamber member events will be the answer. This great benefit is brought to you by WPCR and Frederick Insurance Agency.
We hosted several events in 2019. In July, we partnered with the Jet Express for a Sunset Cruise. Friends, family and co-workers enjoyed a relaxing evening on Lake Erie while watching the sunset. Our Jerry Lippus Car Show in August headed back to Madison Street to spend the day admiring cars from every era, on Sept. 4 our annual Golf Outing at the Catawba Island Club has 24 teams golfing and raising funds to support our annual scholarship for a graduating senior in Ottawa County.
We are excited to announce that the PC Chamber of Commerce along with the other Chambers in Ottawa County have teamed up to create the next edition of the joint Ottawa County Directory that will be completed in January 2020. Thousands of copies of this Directory will be distributed over the next two years via visitor and relocation packets, travel shows, placement at the turnpikes and the National Matches. There is still time to be included in this edition; call our office for the details. Our directories will
also accompany us as we travel to the Great Lakes Home and Flower Show and Ottawa County Fair next year.
The Chamber has again teamed up with Port Clinton’s chapter of Business and Professional Women to organize Candidate’s Night. All Candidates which will be on November’s ballot are invited to speak briefly at the Elks Lodge on Buckeye Boulevard in Port Clinton at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10. This is a free event and is open to the public. We encourage everyone to come out to meet the candidates, listen to each speak, and learn more about the issues which will be on the ballot. There will be a short question and answer period at the end of the evening.
Looking to the New Year, the Port Clinton Area Chamber will be teaming up again with the Port Clinton City School District, Magruder Hospital, and the City of Port Clinton to create the 2019 Guide to Local Activities. Guides will be available at the Chamber office in early 2020. This guide is a great community resource outlining activities in our community. I encourage you to take advantage of the many events and activities in the Port Clinton community.
In March 2020 the PC Chamber will be returning to the Port Clinton High School to host a job fair. We will be inviting all of the local High Schools and public to participate in this event to help our Chamber members. Last year over 50 businesses participated who were looking to hire both seasonal and year round positions. Also, Chamber members will post job openings throughout the year to our website – keep checking back because new ones are always being added.
The PC Chamber is also gearing up for Small Business Saturday on Nov. 29, a day dedicated to supporting small businesses. Visit our chamber website at www.PortClintonChamber.com for a complete list of all of our members… SHOP SMALL and support your community!
The Port Clinton Chamber of Commerce offers many benefits and hosts several events through the year to help our members network. Our Business After Hours held on the first Thursday of every month is a great way to meet new people. We invite you to join us in October at First National Bank located to meet our members and learn about all of the benefits that the PC Chamber has to offer.
Supporting our membership remains the number one priority for the Chamber. This includes offering advertising opportunities, discounts for shipping and bulk mail, and the ability to offer reduced rates for health insurance and workers compensation insurance premiums to our members. The Chamber is constantly looking for other ways to create a better business environment in Ottawa County. For an entire listing of membership benefit information, visit portclintonchamber.com or stop by our office located at 110 Madison St., Port Clinton.
