The Buckeye Association of School Administrator’s Exemplary Leadership Award was presented to Patrick Adkins by Dr. R. Kirk Hamilton, BASA executive director at the Nov. 16 Board of Education Meeting. According to BASA, the honor is given “to an active member in each BASA region who has demonstrated outstanding educational leadership in making significant contributions to educational administration in a school district, education service center or educational institution. The candidate is required to have a minimum of three years of continuous service as an administrator or college instructor and to have been a BASA member for a minimum of three years.” What makes the award even more special is that nominations come from fellow school superintendents.

Adkins has been the superintendent of Port Clinton City School District since 2004 and is actively involved in the local community. Some of his involvement includes serving on the Port Clinton Area Chamber board of directors, Port Clinton Rotary Club, Ottawa County Business Advisory Council and many other local organizations. In 2017, he introduced a district-wide initiative, “R Factor,” that has impacted the overall district culture with the following guiding beliefs: Together; Relentless Pursuit of Growth; and Own it!
