Ottawa County Safety Council hands out awards

The Ottawa County Safety Council held its annual CEO Breakfast & BWC Safety Council Awards at the Catawba Island Club on Wednesday, April 18. The guest speaker was Kimberly Wickert, Director of Rehabilitation & Business Development at VocWorks. Wickert has partnered with employers to assist them in development and implementation of their disability management focusing on Alternative Return to Work Programs. Wickert gave an informational presentation on the topic “Utilizing Local Non-Profits & Alternatives for Transitional Work.” There were 60 business representatives in attendance.
Thirty-five businesses received safety awards from Ohio BWC for safety council membership, calendar year 2017 semi-annual reporting, and safe business practices. The awards include a certificate and a rebate check on their workers’ compensation premiums. Awards are presented to qualifying businesses in the following categories: Group Awards, 100% Award, Achievement Award and Special Award. BWC’s Division of Safety & Hygiene recognizes the four highest performing safety councils in the state. For the second year in a row, out of 83 Ohio Safety Councils, the Ottawa County Safety Council is a finalist for the 2017 Safety Council of the Year.
The Ottawa County Safety Council is very excited to be recognized by the BWC as a top contender. The winners will be announced at the Safety Council Leaders Conference on May 7. The Ottawa County Safety Council promotes safety awareness in the business and industrial community. The Ottawa County Safety Council is sponsored by the Ottawa County Improvement Corporation.
