The Gerontological Society of America recently hosted Careers in Aging Week to raise awareness about the diverse careers available in the field of aging.
According to GSA, “people are living longer and populations are aging worldwide. The demand for professionals with expertise in aging is growing rapidly. The goal of CIAW is to bring greater awareness and visibility to the wide-ranging career opportunities in the field of aging.”
Often people don’t realize the different jobs offered at Ottawa County Riverview Healthcare Campus in Oak Harbor. Our care services require Registered Nurses (RN), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) and State Tested Nursing Assistants (STNA). To expand our quality of care, Riverview has also recently hired our own Family Nurse Practitioner (Our campus offers diversified levels of care for our residents in these areas: Short Term Rehab, Memory & Dementia Care as well as Traditional Long Term Care Services.)

There are numerous Nursing Administrative Positions such as our Day and Night RN Supervisors, our Director of Nursing (DON), Minimum Data Set (MDS) assessment coordinator and assistant, an infection preventionist and case manager to assist with new admissions and working with resident/patient insurances. To manage with the work schedules of these employees and daily staffing needs, we also employ a nursing administrative assistant. Our Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) oversees the organization and safe keeping of both our paper and electronic medical records.
Riverview is able to focus on the entire person’s needs by utilizing the skills of a Licensed Social Worker (LSW) to assist with the mental health of our residents as well as arranging for the various community services needed when a resident successfully discharges back to home. The director of activities and activity assistants not only plan and carry out activities for our residents but also assess the residents’ interests, hobbies and social needs.

Riverview has an award-winning Food and Nutrition Department overseen by a director who is also a Registered Diet Technician (DTR). The Dietary Manager oversees the cooks and food service workers who prepare and serve the meals to our Riverview residents as well as the preparation of the meals for Ottawa County Senior Resources. For more complex patients who have additional nutritional needs, Riverview contracts with a Registered Dietician (RD).
To assist our employees, the #ViewCrew, Riverview has two positions in our Human Resources Department, which consist of a Coordinator and Assistant. These two employees oversee staff retention, staff recruitment/hiring, payroll and assistance with our benefits package.

Our Director of Environmental Services oversees all employees in the Maintenance, Laundry and Housekeeping Department tasked with the cleanliness and upkeep of our facility. As the Department Head that manages the physical building, he is also responsible for building projects, purchasing and the Safety and Preparedness planning for emergency situations.
Our operations are overseen by a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator (LNHA). Our Business Office includes a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and a Staff Accountant, who monitors the budget and finances of the facility, as well as bill insurances and individuals and keeps resident fund accounts. A Customer Service Representative assists our new admissions and their families with admission paperwork and oversees the front desk staffed by our receptionists.
