GREEN SPRINGS – Kathy Hunt, owner and CEO of Elmwood Communities, has announced the appointment of Amanda Luhring, LNHA to the newly created position of administrator of Elmwood Assisted Living & Skilled Nursing of Fremont.
Luhring’s grandparents first purchased the original Elmwood Nursing Home in Green Springs in 1972, making Luhring the third generation of administrators in the family-owned business. At the young age of 8, Luhring found herself enjoying her time with the elderly. She soon felt the same compassion to help others, as her mother, Kathy Hunt. Before long, Luhring began following in her mother’s footsteps, eager to learn all she could about senior care.
Since those early years, Luhring has held several positions with Elmwood, working hard to make her career dreams come true. At age 15, she began working as a care manager at Elmwood Assisted Living of Green Springs. She later received her STNA certification at the age of 18, while still employed at the nursing home. She’s also worked as a dietary hostess, activities assistant, outpatient therapy scheduler, concierge and handled various administrative duties such as hiring, payroll, scheduling and accounting functions. Working alongside various support staff at each Elmwood facility for many years has helped Luhring gain hands-on experience.
Luhring’s Elmwood appointments include: director of administrative services for Elmwood Assisted Living at The Shawhan in Tiffin, executive director of Elmwood Assisted Living of New Bremen, administrator of Elmwood Nursing Home in Green Springs – East campus and executive director of Elmwood Assisted Living of Fremont.
In August 2016, while Luhring was managing Elmwood of Green Spring’s East Campus Nursing Home, the entire Green Springs campus was purchased by another entity. When the opportunity arose to become the administrator of both east and west campus nursing homes, managing a total of 151-beds, Luhring chose to stay with the new owners and take-on the new challenge. Luhring managed both campus’ until April 2017, when she then accepted the position of executive director of Elmwood Assisted Living in Fremont. She resigned her position in Green Springs and rejoined the Elmwood team.
As a graduate of Tiffin University – Luhring received her Bachelor’s in Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing. Luhring earned her Nursing Home Administrator’s license in 2011 after completion of her 9-month AIT internship at Blakely Care Center in Bowling Green and graduating from the Core of Knowledge Course at Ohio State University.
As the new administrator of Elmwood of Fremont’s senior healthcare campus, Luhring’s goals are to help her team continue to provide the excellent care and services that Elmwood is known for providing.
“We have a very good survey history here and we have worked very hard to remain a 5-star facility. My goal is to continue our high standards of care and continue to build a team that will all work together for our residents and customers,” Luhring said.
“I am grateful that Amanda has stepped-up to the plate to accept these new challenges,” Hunt said. “She has a great history with Elmwood, and I am confident in her abilities to continue our strong commitment to good residential care and services.”
Luhring lives in Tiffin with her two daughters.
