MONROEVILLE – Janotta & Herner employees spent their Saturday morning helping guard against home fires.
Janotta & Herner partnered with the American Red Cross to host a Sound the Alarm event in Monroeville on Oct. 19.
“It was very rewarding to be able to install smoke alarms and know that if something as devastating as a fire were to happen, that they would be alerted and avoid tragedy,” said Mark Chase, President of the JHI Group, parent company of Janotta & Herner. “We volunteered for the Sandusky event in April and were so impressed with the program that we reached out to the Red Cross to do another event in Monroeville. We hope to do more events in our local communities.”
It was a pleasure working with the Janotta & Herner Group,” said Lora Taylor, Disaster Program Manager for the American Red Cross. “It is always a pleasure to be able to meet people and to help them before a disaster may strike. Each alarm installed helps make a family safer. We have 642 documented lives saved through the Home Fire Campaign as of 09/30/2019 across the U.S.”
Prior to the event, the neighborhood is canvassed to let people know that there will be people in the area doing smoke alarm installations. On the day of the event, the group breaks up into smaller groups and goes door to door checking smoke alarms and replacing or installing new alarms into homes that are in need. They also provide fire prevention and safety education. This is all done free of charge.
During the event on Saturday, there were 28 homes visited and 70 smoke alarms installed.
The JHI Group includes three firms, Janotta & Herner of Monroeville; 620 Construction of Medina; both Design/Build General Contractors, and Firelands Fabrication of New London, Steel Fabricators. Janotta & Herner was founded in 1962 by building partners Bob Janotta and Jim Herner. Although all three of these companies are independent, they are able to share resources such as labor, equipment and design capabilities, which allow each company to provide an even greater value to its clients. The JHI Group is an ESOP Company with 185 employee-owners serving the construction and steel fabrication needs of clients in the Northern Ohio Area.
