FREMONT – The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums has hired the former director of Heidelberg University’s annual giving program as its new director of development.

Sue Berryman will lead the Hayes Presidential’s fundraising efforts, which include grant writing, seeking donations, sponsorships, the annual Gateway to the Future appeal and planned gifts. She began working in the position in July.

“I love talking and meeting with people,” said Berryman, of Fremont. “This place is just phenomenal. The history is amazing. I’m amazed at the community support and involvement here.”

At Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Berryman directed the university’s $1 million annual fund and organized alumni and donor recognition events and receptions, the university’s endowment and stewardship program and assisted with major gift planning.

Before working at Heidelberg, she was the associate director of development at St. Joseph Central Catholic High School in Fremont from 2004 to 2012.

“This position at the Hayes Presidential Library & Museums was the next logical step in my career,” she said. “It was also an opportunity to work in Fremont again.”

She has an associate’s degree in banking and finance from Terra State Community College.

“I believe Sue is going to do amazing things here at Spiegel Grove and for our community,” said Christie Weininger, Hayes Presidential executive director. “The week before she was officially on the job, she attended an exhibit opening as a guest. We needed an extra pair of hands and she just jumped in and started helping out. That says a lot about her.”

The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums is America’s first presidential library and the forerunner of the federal presidential library system. It is partially funded by the state of Ohio and affiliated with the Ohio History Connection. The Hayes Presidential Library & Museums is located at Spiegel Grove at the corner of Hayes and Buckland avenues.
