NEW LONDON – Firelands Fabrication recently earned the distinction of AISC Certified Building Fabricator. The certification sets the quality standard for the structural steel industry and is the most recognized national quality certification program for that industry. There are only 35 certified building fabricators that have this distinction in the state of Ohio.
“We have been a quality structural steel fabricator for many years,” said Ben Humrichouser, Firelands Fabrication Division President. “It is nice to be recognized by AISC for the controls we have in place to insure top-quality fabrications for our customers. This certification is a great validation of the Firelands Fab team’s experience and hard work.”
Firelands Fabrication is a structural and industrial steel fabricator in New London with a 72,000-square-foot fabrication shop with 25 employee-owners that have over 200 years of combined experience in welding, engineering, in-house detailing and more.
Certified fabricators have been through a rigorous initial evaluation and are subject to annual audits, according to the AISC website. These evaluations require a comprehensive administrative review, a documentation audit, and an on-site audit of the firm’s quality management system and operations. This is significantly different than “product inspection,” since inspection does not focus on the root cause of the error and preventing it from happening again.
