Effective Tuesday, Sept. 1, Timothy A. Buit now serves as the new president and chief executive officer of The Bellevue Hospital. Buit takes the hospital’s top post following the official retirement on Aug. 31 of Michael K. Winthrop, who served as TBH’s president and chief executive officer for 32 years.
“As a locally owned community hospital, it was important to our Board of Trustees to find the right person to lead TBH through this ever-changing health care climate and also align with TBH’s goal to remain independent,” said Thomas P. Barth, chairman of The Bellevue Hospital’s Board of Trustees. “Mr. Buit has been a dedicated member of the TBH family for 11 years and has extensive leadership and health care experience. The Board of Trustees believe Tim will carry on TBH’s mission to remain a viable independent, community hospital.“
Previously Buit served as executive vice president/chief financial officer, where he provided leadership, direction and administration of all aspects of hospital operating and fiscal activities. Key duties included patient financial services, patient access, general accounting, budget and reimbursement, information systems, materials management, health information management, case management and physician practices. He also serves as a board member and treasurer of Community Health Services in Fremont; board member of The Bellevue Hospital Foundation and board member and treasurer of Bellevue Recovery and Support Services (B.R.A.S.S.)
Buit has a master’s degree of business administration from Baldwin-Wallace University in Berea, and also obtained his bachelor of arts degree from Baldwin-Wallace in accounting and finance. Prior to joining TBH, he was vice president of finance and chief financial officer for Medina General Hospital, a 118-bed facility in Medina with more than 1,000 employees and 44 departments. His key duties included patient financial services, general accounting, budget and reimbursement, information systems, materials management, central sterile processing, health information management, case management and patient access.
While working in the Medina area, Buit was a past board member and treasurer of Fairview Credit Union; board president of Bridges Homecare; United Way committee member; Business Development Committee of the Akron City School Board; and a board member of Hospice of Medina County.
His experience in the healthcare field also includes serving as vice president of finance and chief financial officer for Visiting Nurse Services and Affiliates, a not-for-profit affiliate of Akron General Health System and as director of finance for Fairview Hospital in Cleveland.
Buit and his wife, Cindy, are the parents of four children and grandparents of five grandchildren.
